I’m always looking for ways to improve our templates and themes. This month, we’ve released a batch update to our most popular templates. These updates include some important behind the scenes changes to make our templates even more awesome.
The updated templates don’t look any different. That’s because all the changes are behind the scenes.
Better Social Sharing
We’ve integrated some scripts that will make social sharing of your posts better. These include:
- Facebook Open Graph Protocol
- Twitter Cards
- Pinterest Rich Pin Support
Adding these protocols to your blog gives you greater control over how your social shares look. For instance, with Pinterest Rich Pins, you can use a per most meta description to create a custom share text for each post rather than just the name of the post.
NOTE! These protocols require a tiny bit of setup. It’s very easy and of course, we have detailed instructions. Facebook Twitter and Pinterest all require that you validate your site for these procotols prior to them being active. Make sure you check out our Help Articles:
Styles for a new gadget
Blogger introduced a new gadget, the Featured Post gadget, which displays a large thumbnail plus post title and excerpt (optional) for a post of your choosing. We’ve updated all of our themes to include styles to make sure this new gadget blends nicely with each theme.
Under the hood
Behind the scenes in the code, we’ve made some other changes like updating to the latest versions of some of the scripts used in the templates. This will help increase performance.
Where to get the update
If you purchased your template via our shop or on Creative Market, you should already have received an email notice about the update. For Etsy customers, you will need to sign up for our Updates newsletter. We will be sending update links to those who have signed up here.
Before you update your template
Because of certain limitations in the Blogger system, there are certain issues with updating. Make sure you review our Help Article about updating.
