Today we received a number of Help Tickets tipping us off that some of our Blogger customer’s sliders had mysteriously vanished. I’d actually noticed this myself last night on a custom template I was working on. At the time, I was ready to call it done for the night and figured I’d done something in the code to break the slider. But it soon became clear this was not the case…
Blogger System Changes
Blogger has been rolling some new HTTPS protocol changes this month and we suspect this is what has caused the issue. Certain gadgets/widgets just don’t play nice with the HTTPS settings. This would also explain why our gadgets on our sites seem to be failing in waves, one at a time as Blogger moves through their servers changing the protocols. It seems to be moving from the newest sites/servers to the oldest.
These system changes caused 2 of our custom gadgets to fail: the sliders & and the custom search boxes. So far, we haven’t had any notices of anything else failing and all testing on demo sites seems a-okay.
These 2 gadgets used a “blank” placeholder gadget and for some reason, while that worked in the past, with the new changes, it no longer does.
Thankfully, the fix for these issues is fairly easy. You can copy and paste the necessary code for the slider and search gadgets into the blank placeholder gadgets and they will resume working perfectly.
We have provided detailed directions. Click the button below to go directly to our easy-to-follow fix-it directions. Your slider and search boxes will be fixed in just a few minutes!
